Management & Administration
(formally Structures,
Organisation and Strategies)

Moderator: Pam McIntyre [Queen's, Belfast]

The group can meet "virtually" using the Mailbase email list:

http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/aulc-lc-management-admin.html

Objectives of the SIG:

Bullet To identify which administration and management areas should be part of
the brief of this SIG.

The areas listed in the meeting were wide ranging including marketing, human resource management, customer care, resources, quality control, finance, facilities and many others.

It was felt that it might be useful to group this long list under four main headings: management of people, finance, teaching and learning, and strategy.

Bullet To gather data on aspects of good practice in these areas with a view to providing an information service to members.

Sources for data collection identified were: questionnaires to centres (need to follow up on those which have already been sent out), professional bodies (IATEFL SIG in management, ESADE in Barcelona, CERCLES etc.), R &D projects (Aladdin, Translang etc), academic literature in educational management and certain professional management bodies.

Bullet

To develop guidelines for good practice in different aspects of management and admininstration which might be distributed, on an advisory basis, to centres.

The guidelines might be particularly valuable in areas such as hrm, finance and customer care.

Bullet To respond to the increasing demand for training by organising short staff development courses.

Financial support should be sought from the AULC executive.

Bullet Starting with 'Frequently Asked Questions' (FAQ), to establish a range of discussion networks through our Mailbase system to respond to requests for information and to share our knowledge across a range of aspects of good practice in university language centres.
