The
Learning System at ULH provides a web-based learning
environment to support the delivery of all subjects. It is
available both on- and off-campus, with password protected
internet access.
Standard
features of the learning system include:
a
personal diary
material
to support the delivery of taught units, in the form of
documentation and on-line assessments

electronic
noticeboards and discussion groups. Notice boards allow file
attachments (e.g. lecture notes) and links to external
web sites
an
exercise creation template for staff to generate their own
on-line tests
a
tool for staff to monitor student activity
links
to other information sources
Modern
Languages students have access to:
a
French diagnostic test with automatic feedback
notice
boards, containing information, lecture notes and links to
external sites
discussion
groups, including one for students on their year abroad
links
to Language Centre web pages, containing guides to resources
and advice on independent learning (these pages are publicly
accessible at
http://www.ulh.ac.uk/ls/language/langc01.htm
The
learning system is under constant development.
It will shortly include chat-rooms for live text-based
communication, and an enhanced question designer
allowing the addition of sound and video to on-line tests.
The Learning System provides the framework for the ELEN
project, a TLTP-funded scheme which aims to
distribute learning materials in the areas of generic study
skills, languages and engineering to the consortium
members.
